Pros and Cons of Juicing
There has been a lot of hype lately about making your own vegetable and/or fruit juice, and I think it is time I finally discuss the pros and cons of juicing with you.
Pros of Juicing
There are a lot of pros to juicing, but let’s discuss some of the highlights:
• You will be able to consume a lot more vegetables and/or fruits in a day. For my friends who have started to juice, I hear the same comment over and over again “I’ve never eaten so much vegetables/fruit in my life!”. Such a great thing to hear!
• Fast and easy way to eat your vegetables and/or fruit!
• Encourages you to eat your vegetables RAW – which has many health benefits! Cooked veggies still have their benefits, but many would argue that eating raw veggies is ‘best’.
Cons of Juicing
Believe it or not, there actually are some cons to juicing your beloved fruits and veggies! The great news is, these cons can easily be fixed to maximize your juicing experience!
• Not only do you consume a lot more fruits and/or vegetables, but you also can waste a lot of food (see picture above of all of the food that doesn’t end up in your juice)! To prevent wasting your super healthy food, find ways to use your juicer pulp!
• When people juice their produce, they are usually consuming fruit and vegetables without the fiber! You will maximize on the fruit or vegetable’s health benefits by eating the whole fruit or vegetable! I recommend using either a vitamix of blendec so you can still juice your produce – without missing any of the essential nutrients!
• Cleaning out the juicer. I hate it. Find a juicer that is EASY TO CLEAN! Trust me! Otherwise, you’ll find that you just don’t juice as often as you would like to…just do you don’t have to clean a million and one pieces that go with the juicer.

What juicer do you recommend for ease in cleaning? I used to have a Jack Llaine juicer, but it was a mess and difficult to clean all those parts! Got rid of it and bought a vitamix. I’m on the band wagon for getting the fiber. However, recently my daughter has been working a gig in Hollywood. Next door to her gig is a juicing place. She bought some and noticed she felt so much better after drinking it. We eat really well with green smoothies, etc. The way she felt was not a sugar high either as she is really in tune with her body and knows the difference. plus there was no crash afterwards. So, we’re in the market for another juicer :)
Loretta – I think you are on the right track with the Vitamix since you can use ALL of the fruit/veggie that you use. However, if you are looking for a juicer, I would recommend a slow juicer since they handle greens really well and use more of the vegetables and fruits and the juice can be stored up to 72 hours, which is helpful if you want to save juice to drink later in the day.
