Cafe Zupas anyone…?

Looking for a new place to eat out for lunch or dinner?  Sometimes, we eat things that are not too healthy or good for us when we are pressed for time, want something quick on the go, or have a lunch meeting or what not. I have discovered Cafe Zupas. They have Salads and Soups- gourmet style (They have panini sandwiches too, but I haven’t personally had them).

Salads

nuts about berries2

I usually tend to lean towards geting the “Nuts about Berries” salad. At first, I wasn’t too sure if I would like berries in my salads since the salads I usually make for myself are an all-veggie type of a salad. If you are a salad lover, you are seriously going to love this Salad. It tastes great with the added fruit, with a bit of sweetened nuts for a crunch texture, and they have this amazing poppy seed dressing goes perfectly with the rest of the salad. I am not sure what is all in the dressing, but my guess is that you might not want to put too much on your salad for health and calorie purposes.

Soups

If I am getting the soup, the Thai Lobster is one of my favorite. It just has this different taste to it (probably the curry?), and if you want to try something that is a little bit of out of the ordinary and not just your average plain soup, I say it’s worth a try. With this soups esquisite tastes, you will feel like you are dining in a deluxe restraunt- without the high price tag attached.

This is just touching the surface of what they have. My only “warning” is, it tastes really good and you might just get addicted. Also, just because it is salad and soups, you still need to watch out for portion control and calories. The great thing about Cafe Zupas, is that I dont feel guilty when I am done with my meal.

If you have tried Cafe Zupas, any other recommendations?

*Sorry all, no official serving size or calorie count on these dishes, but here is my estimates on how many calories are in the Nuts about Berries salad.

  1. The Nuts About Berries salad and the Thai Lobster Curry soup are the two things I order there. I love them. It really, really bothers me, however, that Zupas doesn’t provide nutritional information. That is the reason I go there rarely even though the food is just great.

  2. Amber,

I plan on getting a Nuts about Berries salad soon and figuring out the calories (and post my findings)!

  3. I am with you, Amber. I am lactose intolerant, and watching fats and sugars. I also like to keep an eye on calories. I like to plan what I eat ahead of time. I went with my daughter today, and had to take their word about non dairy soups. I wanted info. on the salad dressing. I didn’t realize you could pay to make your own salad, either. Anyway, everything is good, but would be reluctant to go again if I can’t plan ahead.

  4. I wouldn’t assume that fresh=healthy. I used to work at Zupas, and their food isn’t nearly as healthy as they purport it to be. Making your own salad is a great way to get your specific needs filled for ingredients, but the “house-made” dressings are full calorie. They aren’t shy about adding great tasting ingredients,(like heavy cream, sugar, or lard,) but it just comes with a hefty caloric price tag. They now have the federally mandated level of 20 locations where they should be required to have this information available, but last I checked they were changing recipes on some of their ingredients to minimize the damage.
I think Zupas has great tasting food, and so do many, many other people, but I just wish they were a little more honest/upfront about the nutrition.

  5. Thank you for the person who left the last comment – Cautionary! I agree with most, it does taste good but I also have stopped eating there because they do not offer a nutrional menu and or ingredients list! I really do hope that the feds push on them to get this done – not to be mean but I would also try to calculate calories and I was certain that they are probably not as “low density” healthy as we may have assumed, because they say it’s fresh? Fresh to me is from a local market not off the Sysco Food Truck.

  6. I LOVE ZUPAS’ FOOD, BUT I FOUND THE NUTRITION INFO ON A COUPLE OF SALADS AND I WAS FLOORED…SALADS….WOW! THE SANDWICHES – MY FAVORITE BEING THE TURKEY ARTICHOKE SPINACH IS PACKED WITH 2600+ MILLIGRAMS OF SODIUM! UNBELIEVABLE! CAN’T EAT THERE AS MUCH AS I LOVE THE FOOD, I CANNOT PUT THAT MUCH SODIUM IN MY BODY FOR ONE DAY LET ALONE ONE MEAL. I’M SCARED TO EVEN LOOK AT THE SOUPS! WHEW!
